What Is Circuit Design? From Idea to Schematic
Circuit design turns what a device must do into a drawing of electronic components and how they connect.
From idea to schematic
- Define what the device must do: inputs, outputs and power.
- Choose the approach, such as a microcontroller, sensors, drivers and a power supply.
- Draw the schematic, showing every component and connection.
- Review the design and check it before moving to PCB layout.
Choosing components
Parts are chosen for their voltage and current ratings, package size, availability and cost. The datasheet of each part guides how it must be connected.
Checks before layout
A good design checks the power budget, protects against reverse polarity and static, and plans connectors and test points.
What a designer needs from you
What the circuit must do, the power source, any key parts you want to use, size limits and the environment it will work in.
Next step
Once the schematic is ready, the next step is PCB design: placing the parts on a board and routing the connections.
