How to Prepare a Drawing for CNC Machining
A clear drawing helps us quote faster and make the part right the first time.
File formats
Send a PDF drawing and a STEP file of the 3D model. A DXF is useful for flat parts.
Dimensions and tolerances
Show the dimensions that matter and give a tolerance only where you need one. Tight tolerances add cost, so ask for them only on the features that need them.
Material and finish
State the material, any surface finish and any treatment, such as anodizing or coating.
Design tips
- Internal corners get a radius because cutters are round.
- Avoid very deep, narrow pockets.
- Give threads and holes their size and depth.
Quantity
Tell us how many pieces you need. Repeat orders bring the price per piece down.
