How Much Infill Do You Need in 3D Printing?

Infill is the pattern printed inside a part. The percentage tells you how much of the inside is filled.

What each level is used for

  • 10%: light display pieces and models
  • 20%: standard for prototypes and everyday parts
  • 30% to 50%: stronger functional parts
  • 100%: small parts that carry high loads, or when a solid part is needed

Walls matter too

The outer walls and the top and bottom layers add a lot of strength. Adding more walls often helps more than adding infill.

Infill and cost

More infill means more material and print time, so the weight and the price go up. The outer walls are solid at any infill, so small thin parts are cheaper than their volume suggests.
